About
Art on an Island
Kim Bruder
Kim Bruder moved to San Juan Island, WA in 2009 after falling head over heels for the abundant beauty of the Pacific Northwest. She always had an eye for the splendor in nature and acknowledges Mother Nature as the ultimate artist.
Before moving to the islands, she and her husband lived on the East Coast. Kim studied graphic design at the Art Institute of Philadelphia and worked as a graphic designer for various design studios and print houses for 18 years. Although this work was initially rewarding, it never fed her soul quite like her time spent in the studio painting or out admiring the great outdoors.
Since moving to the west coast she has spent many hours studying the rural landscapes, coastlines and forests throughout the San Juan Islands and beyond. Her paintings reflect the great love she has for nature and the natural beauty that engulfs her daily.
She believes life is what you make of it, so make it beautiful! She often chooses vibrant colors to enhance her paintings to brighten indoor spaces.
She lives with her husband and goofy dog in their earthy dwelling called Fern Hollow amongst an old growth forest filled with ferns, mushrooms & mossy knolls.
Kim sells her work locally at Roche Harbor Resort in the Artist Village and at Dominique’s at Roche. She also has work at the Interpretive Center at Limekiln Lighthouse on San Juan Island and Salty at Heart Apothecary in Friday Harbor.
She has won the Peoples Choice award from Island Museum of Art on San Juan Island for her serene “Gratitude” painting as seen below.
